Issued for WAIKERIE in the Riverland of South Australia.

The SA Country Fire Service (CFS) is monitoring a fire in Waikerie in the Riverland of South Australia.

The fire commenced on Tuesday at the Waste Transfer Station on Maggea Road, Waikerie.

Firefighters from the CFS and private machinery have made a substantial impact to the fire over the last couple of days. Due to the declaration of a Total Fire Ban and weather conditions expected today, CFS will continue to monitor the fire to ensure there is no break out from the Waste Transfer Station. It is not expected to pose any threat to the community.

Smoke from this fire has decreased significantly, however, as a precaution, residents in the area who suffer from respiratory or cardiac conditions may wish to consider closing all doors and windows if any smoke is still lingering.
