Incident Update - Crop & Stubble Fire at Weetulta
ISSUED FOR WEETULTA
CFS crews including fire bombing aircraft have responded to a crop and stubble fire at Weetulta on the Central Yorke Peninsula. This fire is now contained, but has burnt out approximately 50 hectares of crop and stubble and at one stage threatened a house and nearby sheds on the farming property.
Crews are continuing to mop up hot spots particularly in patches of scrub and in the crop to prevent further flare ups. The Incident Controller is alert to the potential for deteriorating weather over the next 48 hours which may cause further problems for firefighters.
Whilst this fire occurred on a relatively isolated farming property surrounding communities and the wider public need to remain aware and informed of the potential for dangerous fires to occur over the remainder of the Fire Danger Season.
Approximately 40 CFS personnel supported by two fire bombing aircraft based at Hoyleton in the State's Mid North, along with a number of farm fire units acted quickly to protect surrounding property and limit the loss of crop suffered by the land owner.
