WILLIAMSTOWN

Williamstown Fire

Issued for Williamstown, in the South Para Reservoir approximately 2km south of Williamstown township in the Mount Lofty Ranges.

CFS advises that the fire at the South Para Reservoir near South Para Road, approximately 2km south of the Williamstown township, is now contained.

CFS crews on 35 trucks are in attendance with the support of National Parks, Forestry SA and Department for Environment and Water crews, and SAPOL. Crews are currently mopping up in areas of heavy timber and pine slash, and will remain through the night and during the day tomorrow to ensure the fire is fully extinguished.

The current size of the burnt area is approximately 10 hectares and it is not expected to increase at this stage. Smoke from heavy timber on the fireground is visible in the area.

The cause of this fire is currently being investigated, but it is not believed to be deliberate.

Due to hot working conditions in rugged terrain, St John volunteers will attend the fireground for firefighter welfare.

South Para Road will remain closed until approximately 5pm. Other road closures may be in place in and around the fireground. A full list of current road closures is available at: https://traffic.sa.gov.au/

To ensure your safety and that of firefighters and other emergency personnel who are working in the area, please do not enter the area unless necessary..
