Mid North and Yorke Peninsula - Fire Danger Season dates announced

Thursday, 22 October 2026

The SA Country Fire Service (CFS) has declared Fire Danger Season dates for the Mid North and Yorke Peninsula Fire Ban Districts.

The Fire Danger Season will begin in these districts on 1 November 2026 and conclude on 30 April, in line with last season.

CFS Manager Prevention Authorisation and Compliance Craig Tapscott said the Fire Danger Season date announcement does not prevent landholders from undertaking property management practices to prepare their homes and properties.

“During Fire Danger Season, landholders can still undertake property management and preparation activities, however they should refer to the CFS website to ensure they have the appropriate cleared space and extinguishment vessels on hand,” Mr Tapscott said.

“With harvest activity increasing across the Mid North and Yorke Peninsula, it is important for landholders and property owners to plan ahead and ensure they have the appropriate permits and provisions prior to undertaking any burning or activities using equipment such as mowers, slashers and whipper snippers, once we enter Fire Danger Season.

“Ensuring any harvesting, burning or preparation activities take place safely and in the appropriate conditions will not only protect your property but also those of your neighbours.”

The Mid North and Yorke Peninsula districts are both being supported by the aviation Temporary Response Zone (TRZ) that has been established by the CFS in response to this year’s significant harvest.

“With harvesting activity occurring across the Mid North and Yorke Peninsula during the early part of Fire Danger Season, the aviation TRZ helps ensure aerial firefighting resources are available where and when they are needed most, providing valuable support to local crews and farming communities,” Mr Tapscott said.

Dates for the remaining Fire Ban Districts, including the Adelaide Metropolitan Area, Kangaroo Island and Mount Lofty Ranges, will be announced in coming weeks following further local consultation with relevant Bushfire Management Committees.
