New station improves Adelaide Hills emergency response

Friday, 18 September 2026

Construction is commencing on a $4 million SA Country Fire Service (CFS) facility for the Lenswood/ Forest Range CFS brigade, strengthening emergency response across the Adelaide Hills and beyond.

The new station replaces existing ageing facilities and will improve training and response times, particularly during bushfires, storms, and flooding callouts.

Based on the CFS Standard Station Design, the fit-for-purpose facility will include:

  • Three vehicle bays
  • Locker and change room facilities
  • Toilet and shower amenities
  • Multipurpose meeting area and office space
  • Storage area
  • Kitchen
  • Radio room
  • Equipment maintenance area and Breathing Apparatus recommissioning room
  • Outdoor entertainment area, hardstand, car parking, and landscaping.

A ceremonial sod-turning was held today at the 2,000m² site at Lot 2 Coldstore Road, Lenswood, marking an important milestone in the project’s delivery.

“This is the start of a project that will be a source of pride for the Lenswood/Forest Range CFS brigade, and which reflects an ongoing investment in infrastructure for our volunteers and their communities,” CFS Chief Officer Brett Loughlin AFSM said.

“The Lenswood/Forest Range brigade is an integral part of our Adelaide Hills community, and this project will significantly improve safety, capability and working conditions for our exceptional volunteers.”

South Australian Emergency Services Minister Rhiannon Pearce said the new station will boost capacity in the Adelaide Hills.

"This new station at Lenswood/Forest Range will significantly boost capacity in one of our state's bushfire hotspots," Minister Pearce said.

"It will mean Hills residents are even better protected in the event of a fire or other emergency and that our dedicated CFS staff and volunteers will have state-of-the-art infrastructure and equipment to help keep their community safe."

Construction of this project is expected to be completed by May 2027.

The Lenswood/Forest Range project is joined by other CFS station facility upgrades currently underway or in planning at Maitland, Freeling and Cootra.
