Fire Danger Season ends for two districts

31/03/2018

The Fire Danger Season will end at midnight tonight (March 31) for the North West Pastoral and North East Pastoral Fire Ban Districts.

From April 1 fire restrictions will no longer apply to the two districts but will continue for the 13 other Fire Ban Districts across South Australia.

CFS State Duty Commander, Nik Stanley said many landowners across the two districts may use the end of the Fire Danger Season to conduct burn-offs.

"We urge people conducting burn offs near a homestead to make sure all precautions are taken and contingency plans are in place to manage the fire should it get out of control," Mr Stanley said.

A voluntary code of practice for broadacre burning is available on the CFS website (www.cfs.sa.gov.au).

CFS will respond to requests for support, however due to the large distances in the Pastoral districts, it can take some time

A Total Fire Ban may also be declared outside the Fire Danger Season, and in this event a permit will be required and may be obtained from local councils.

End of Fire Danger Season dates for the remaining 13 districts will be announced over the coming month.
