Freight train diesel leak - 10 February 2025

At around 4:15 am, approximately 20 CFS firefighters responded with 4 trucks to a train diesel leak in Upper Sturt, Adelaide Hills.

A 1.5 km-long freight train collided with a tree branch, damaging the diesel tank and brakes. Thankfully, the driver was unharmed and brought the train to a safe stop.

The HazMat brigades worked quickly to plug the leak and contain the diesel spill. Thanks to their efforts, the leak was limited to around 8,000 to 10,000 L, a significant reduction from the tank's full capacity of 20,000 L.

Emergency services are still active in the area managing the clean-up and tree removal.
