Hay shed fire at Tothill Creek - Tuesday 1 December

At just after 9am this morning, the CFS were alerted to a fire at Tothill Creek in the state’s Mid North.

Seven CFS trucks and around 35 CFS volunteers attended the fire and arrived to find a hay shed with around 2000 bales fully engulfed in flames.

The CFS volunteers are currently on scene with CFS crews spreading the hay in nearby bare paddocks to extinguish.

Estimated loss is between $500,000 and $600,000.

Fire cause investigations are at the scene, with cause unconfirmed at this stage.

The CFS has responded to a large number of hay stack fires this season and again wants to remind primary producers to regularly monitor the temperature of hay bales, and remove and manage any that are heating up or showing signs of steam or smoke.
