HazMat at Barmera - 15 October 2025

At approximately 7:45 am, CFS firefighters responded to a HazMat incident in Barmera in the state’s Riverland, supported by SA Police, Metropolitan Fire Service, and the Department for Infrastructure and Transport.

A trailer carrying two flooring chemicals overturned at the roundabout at the corner of Old Sturt Highway and Sturt Highway. Seventeen CFS firefighters on three trucks responded quickly to prevent the chemicals from mixing and spilling into nearby drains by constructing a dirt dam on the road to block their flow.

Fortunately, there is no health risk to the community, as the chemicals are safe to mix. The driver is unharmed, and CFS firefighters overturned the trailer and reattached its wheels.

Please be aware that emergency services are active in the area, managing traffic and overseeing the clean-up. Follow all directions and signage from personnel. For updates on road closures, visit traffic.sa.gov.au
