Machinery fire at Dismal Swamp - 16 February 2024
CFS crews are attending a machinery fire at a mulching facility at Dismal Swamp, just north of the Mount Gambier township in the state’s southeast. Crews were called to the incident just before 5pm this afternoon.
Approximately 35 CFS firefighters on 5 trucks, including one bulk water carrier, were supported in the air by observational and fire-bombing aircraft, along with ground crews from Forestry SA.
Firefighters are working to contain the fire burning in the machinery and surrounding bark mulch. Firefighters have prevented further spread of the fire, however, are working alongside excavators and loaders on site to extinguish the current fire.
Crews are expected to remain on scene for the next couple of hours to mop up and render the site safe.
Losses are estimated at approximately $350,000.
