Truck fire at Tailem Bend - 12 February 2025

Around 1:30 am, approximately 10 CFS firefighters were called to a truck fire in Tailem Bend, located in the Murraylands region.

Firefighters responded with 3 trucks to manage the blaze. The fire had fully engulfed the truck and spread to the surrounding grass after the driver smelled smoke and saw a glow under the truck’s tyres.

Crews worked in hot conditions this morning, with temperatures already high and more extreme heat expected later today. Despite these challenging conditions, they were able to suppress the fire effectively, using foam to reduce its intensity.

SA Police temporarily closed Mallee Highway, which has now reopened to a single lane. Emergency services may still be working in and around the area. For updates on road closures, please visit traffic.sa.gov.au.

The estimated damage is approximately $100,000.
