Truck fire in Tungkillo - 21 February 2024

CFS crews were alerted to a tipper truck carrying potatoes on fire along the roadside in Tungkillo in the states Murraylands at approximately 1 pm this afternoon.

Approximately 30 CFS firefighters on 6 trucks were supported by CFS aircraft, including Blackhawk helicopters, to contain the fire. CFS aircraft were close by attending to another incident and were able to offer quick support by laying a wet line parallel to the truck and preventing any further spread of fire.

The cause has yet to be determined. Slight damage was sustained to the trailer and load; however, the prime mover was destroyed, with losses estimated at approximately $60,000.
