HazMat incident at Suttontown - 13 May 2025

Four CFS trucks carrying approximately 20 firefighters responded to Triple O at midnight to attend a HazMat incident at Suttontown, located near Mount Gambier and three kilometres west of the Jubilee Highway, in the state’s South East.

Upon arrival CFS volunteers discovered the strong smell of ammonia coming from a local cheese factory.

Volunteers have conducted atmospheric monitoring and are now venting the building to disperse the ammonia, while nearby residents were advised to stay inside for their safety.

A CFS HazMat truck from Naracoorte, along with two SA Metropolitan Fire Service trucks, is on scene to assist the volunteers, while SA Ambulance Service, State Emergency Service, and SA Police personnel have also provided support.

Depending upon the ammonia leak and ongoing conditions, volunteers could be on scene for several more hours.

Please be aware that road closures may be in place for Pine Hall Avenue and other roads within the vicinity of the cheese factory due to this incident and motorists are advised to take care around the location.
