$700,000 vehicle and shed fire at Struan, in SA's South East

CFS crews from Naracoorte, Penola and Mount Gambier were alerted to a fire in workshops adjacent to the Struan Research Centre, 16 kilometres south of Naracoorte, in the state’s South East, just after 11pm last night.

On arrival, 34 volunteer firefighters on ten CFS trucks, found three vehicles – two trucks and a tractor – and a shed containing another three vehicles alight. Crews spent approximately four hours extinguishing the fire but were unable to save the vehicles and sheds. However, the hard work of crews prevented the spread of the fires, saving two adjoining sheds containing farming equipment, quadbikes and worksite machinery. Straun House remained undamaged.

Two CFS crews were called back to the site this in the early hours of this morning, following a flare up in a truck on scene.

CFS crews were supported by SA Police, SA Ambulance and staff from Primary Industries and Regions. Total losses from the fire are estimated to be in the vicinity of $700,000.

Fire Cause Investigators will be on scene this morning.
