Today, 17 March, we have seen strong winds across much of the state and there were two challenging fires occur in the Fleurieu Peninsula just south east of Yankalilla at Bald Hills and Inman Valley.

These fires started from lightning strikes just before 11am.

CFS deployed about 30 appliance, 70 fire fighters, four bombers,  an air crane and observational aircraft to both fires and combined they burnt about 50 hectares.

The fires were contained before 1pm and fortunately there were no significant property losses.

A number of crews will remain on the fire ground to mop up and monitor in case of any flare ups during the late afternoon and evening.

CFS crews across SA will remain on high alert into the evening with lighting strikes and strong winds anticipated.
