Lightning causes fires - 29 November

Wednesday, November 29 at 5.15pm:

CFS crews have attended a number of fires this afternoon after a band of lightning travelled across the state.

Just before 3.30pm CFS crews were called to a fire on Bremer Range Road at Monarto South near Callington.

The fire started in stubble and burnt about 45 hectares of land, including approximately 200 hay bales. Sheep in the nearby paddock were successfully herded out of harm’s way.

Aerial bombers dropped seven loads to assist firefighters and farm fire unit operators suppress the fire.

Crews are currently creating a mineral earth break around the hay bales to stop the fire spreading further. They are expected to burn for some time.

Meanwhile, fire at Malinong near Coomandook burnt about 40 hectares of crop, but was quickly contained by six firefighters and six farm fire units.
