Kitchen Fire at Hawker - 26 April 2025
CFS firefighters have saved a heritage house from catching alight after a kitchen fire threatened the home in Hawker, a town in the Flinders Ranges.
The house still has its original structure which contains straw panelling making the house significantly flammable.
Great efforts from the approximately 10 firefighters on 2 trucks meant the fire was quickly contained to the kitchen upon their arrival, limiting the damage to $30,000.
The cause is believed to be an electrical fault.
No one was home when the fire started and emergency services thank a member of the public for calling the fire in when they saw flames through the window and heard the fire alarm.
Working smoke alarms save lives. Having a working smoke alarm is crucial for your safety. It provides an early warning, giving you and your loved ones the best chance to escape in an emergency.
Test your smoke alarms this weekend, replace the batteries if needed, and make sure they are clear and in good working order. A simple check could save your life.
