Mulch fire at Waikerie - 20 February 2024

CFS crews were called to a fire at the Waste Transfer Station in Waikerie in the state’s Riverland at approximately 1:30am this morning.

Seven CFS crews with approximately twenty-eight firefighters are actively fighting the fire on scene, with support from Council machinery.

At present, three separate fires are burning at the facility- one is burning in a large pile of vehicle tyres and two further fires are burning in large piles of green waste. The diligent work of CFS crews has prevented the further spread of fire within the site. The fires are being treated as suspicious and Fire Investigators are enroute to the scene.

Firefighters will likely remain on scene for the next couple of days to fully extinguish the fire and mop up the area. No losses have yet been estimated.
