$220,000 header fire at Mallala - 5 November 2023

A header fire has started a crop fire on Owen Road at Mallala, north of Adelaide. 

Approximately 25 firefighters on 4 trucks, supported by 12 Farm Fire Units and 5 aircraft, stopped the blaze at 17 ha as it reached previously harvested lentil crops. The fire ran through wheat crops, fencing and destroyed the front of the header. Quick work from crews saved the reminder of the header. The estimated damage equates to $220,000.

The farmer was able to exit the header unharmed and there are no other known injuries from this fire.
