Aged care facility fire in Angle Vale - 19 January 2024

CFS crews were called to a structure fire at an aged care facility in Angle Vale of the Adelaide Plains at around 9 am this morning.

Five CFS crews with approximately twenty volunteer firefighters were assisted by two MFS crews, along with resources from SES, SA Ambulance, SAPOL and SA Power Networks.

A fire was detected in the ceiling of the communal hall and triggered activation of the building’s sprinkler system. Thankfully, all residents had been safely evacuated from the building. Firefighters worked successfully to control the fire under difficult access conditions, given the height of the ceilings and internal roof space. Whilst the cause is not suspicious, Fire Investigators are responding to determine the cause.

Firefighters will remain on scene for the next few hours to ensure the fire is fully extinguished and to assist with the extensive water damage throughout the building. Losses are estimated at approximately $400,000.
