Grass fire at Angaston - 19 April 2022

At approximately 1:26pm this afternoon, CFS crews were called to a grass fire at a residential property on Newcastle Street in Angaston.

On arrival, crews found a fire at the rear of the property. Whilst the fire burnt 2-3 hectares, thanks to the quick action and hard work of these crews, the fire was contained with no reported damage to any buildings on the property.

There were concerns regarding a number of 44 gallon drums located on the property, however specialist CFS HAZMAT crews were quick to cordon off the area and were able to determine the drums were empty.

CFS crews will remain on scene monitoring for hotspots and a cause is yet to be determined, though it is not believed to be suspicious at this stage.

As we head into cooler weather, we want to remind the public of the risks around bushfires and to remain alert and informed.
