Harvest fire at Grace Plains - 13 November

Monday, November 13 at 1.35pm: 

At 12noon today, CFS crews were called to a crop fire at Grace Plains near Mallala in the Mid North.

Forty firefighters, with aerial bombing assistance, tackled the blaze and which burned approximately 30 hectares.

The fire is now contained. It was caused by mechanical failure on a header as it was reaping a lentil crop. The damage bill is approximately $500,000.

CFS reminds all farmers to regularly check and maintain their harvesters to ensure fires do not start. More information about the voluntary Harvesting Codes of Practice is available on the CFS website.

Earlier in the day crews also attended a fire near Mount Pleasant, which burned about 40 hectares of grass.

Aerial bombers and about 60 firefighters managed to contain the blaze with no assets threatened.
